SCRUB-A-DUB-DUB: A Nurse’s Guide to Surgical Assistance (Part 1)
Scrubbing in is a key role in surgical nursing, combining technical skill with real-time support for the surgeon. This practical session focuses on the core techniques needed to become a confident scrub nurse. Starting with surgical hand preparation, gowning, and closed gloving, we build a solid foundation in aseptic technique before revisiting Halsted’s Principles of Surgery and how they guide good surgical practice.
We then explore the day-to-day responsibilities of the scrub nurse, from preparing the surgical trolley and maintaining sterility to assisting the surgeon and performing accurate swab counts. A focused, practical session designed to help you work efficiently in theatre and support safer surgical outcomes.
