This is the first of a two-part series on chronic kidney disease (CKD). In this session we will focus on the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease with a special emphasis on the challenges of diagnosing early stages of CKD. We will then look at when, and in what circumstances, to IRIS stage (and substage) a patient already diagnosed with CKD.

Susana graduated from the University of Porto, Portugal and worked in first opinion practice for four years before starting a small animal internship. She did her residency in Small Animal Medicine at Langford, University of Bristol and obtained her European Diploma in Small Animal Medicine in 2010. Afterwards, Susana worked in different referral hospitals in the South West for a number of years while at the same time following her passion for teaching, nationally and internationally. Currently, Susana continues to teach post-graduate students, is part of the ISVPS exam committee for the Small Animal Medicine certificate and provides support to veterinary surgeons via online consultancy for IDEXX UK and Virtual Veterinary Specialists (VVS).
