The scope of this webinar is the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. Firstly, we will go through important concepts and definitions about epilepsy, different types of epileptic seizures and types of epilepsy. We will then explain the diagnostic work-up when we are faced with a fitting patient. And last, but not least, the treatment: from the classic traditional anti-seizure drugs to the most novel and raising therapeutic strategies.

Emili Alcoverra

Emili graduated from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 2011. Emili worked for over two years as an out-of-hours general vet in Mataró (Barcelona), and moved to the UK in 2016. He initially worked in a first-opinion practice in Liverpool and he then performed a neurology internship at the Animal Health Trust (Newmarket). From 2017 to 2020, Emili undertook his residency in neurology at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital (University of Liverpool) and then worked for nearly 4 years at ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists. In 2024, he moved back to his home country Catalonia and is currently working at Ars Veterinària, in Barcelona. In 2021, Emili became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology, he was recognised as a Specialist in Veterinary Neurology by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in 2022 and was accredited in Neurology by the Association of Small Animals Veterinarians (AVEPA) in 2023. He has presented multiple communications at national and international conferences, and has authored and co-authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals. Emili has been a speaker and tutor of postgraduate courses and training seminars, and is also a reviewer of scientific journals. Emili feels fortunate to have been able to learn and to continue to learn from all the supervisors, mentors and colleagues he has had and still has, as well as from the interns, residents, technicians, nursing and customer service staff who, all together, make the treatment and care of our patients and the support of their families possible.
