I actually meant to post that question about ondansetron separately but hopefully it would be ok here. So my colleague had read in another veterinary discussion forum that the max daily dose for big dogs shouldn’t exceed 8mg of the drug per day. Have you heard of this?

Thanks Scott as always! I’m well. Hope you are also. Work has been so hectic that I haven’t had time to be here as much but looking forward to signing up for more courses. 😁

What dosages for ondansetron in dogs and cats is everyone using?

Thanks Scott and yes agreed I’ll let everyone at the clinic know to avoid diluting if we can.
It can be difficult. Sometimes due to finding the right supplier and sometimes due to organizational issues within the practice. Thanks for asking 🙂

Also I’ve not noticed if refrigeration helps or not. If it’s no diluted then it still seems to sting regardless. My techs have reported that it stings given iv also.

    Hi Scott,
Thanks for your quick reply. I actually used the prevomax brand solely when I was at a clinic in the UK. It’s apparently formulated to be less stingy. The bottle wasn’t refrigerated or diluted. I noticed that a few animals did find it painful but it wasn’t a common reaction.

At the clinic I’m at now. We dilute it routinely with sterile water. I think some may use LRS or nacl 0.9%. I have seen techs here administer it along the same line that they use to give SA fluids(LRS, nacl or plasma lyte).
We had the prevomax brand in it at one point but I don’t think it was stocked long enough to compare to the cerenia in terms of how often pets had a pain reaction on injection to it. Not always easy to get certain brands from our suppliers onto islands! I’ll find out if we can get prevomax brand in again.

    Thanks,
    Raquel

Also, is cystocentesis recommended as the gold standard for urine culture in people also? Just curious.

Great to know that the oral cobalamin is it’s as effective. I wasn’t sure if it was better to stick with the injectable form or not. I have used the oral form before.
An Idexx internal medicine specialist had told me once that they wouldn’t use the oral supplementation with a too with pancreatic insufficiency. Do you feel this way also? (Not related to the case I asked about previously)

Also do you have a dose of the folate if I use a human product? Or should I follow the guidelines on the cobalex packaging? Not sure if I’ll get permission to order some for the clinic. I can ask the client to and see how long that may take.
    Thank again!

    Hi Scott,
Thanks so much for the quick and super helpful response. Her cobalamin levels were 242 ng/L. Her folate was 3.9 ug/L(normal is 4.8-19). I’ll see if we can order Cobalex in. Might be a while(I’m in the Cayman Islands). Can a human folate product work alternatively? I gave the owner the options for supplementation-oral or weekly injections. She chose the injections.
    Thanks again!
