Good point re infectious disease. I will bear that in mind, thank you.
Folate and b12 are in the first attachment ( attachments loaded back to front!)- they were wnl
Thank you for taking the time to look at this case. I hope it was okay to pop it up here, but it seemed to kind of fit in with what we were discussing and I personally have learnt a couple of things from it!1

A basal cortisol has been ordered from the bloods sent away, but the owner reports that the faeces are a little less liquid on prebiotic capsules.
Dog still eating well and BAR, so we are going to see what happens over the weekend.

These are adult references, and the lab was a bit non specific about what actually was a problem when we spoke to them.
We will try and ro a shunt.

Hi, I’m Jacq and I work part-time in a first opinion practice in NW London.
I’m a dinosaur vet who had almost two decades out of practice to raise 4 neurodivergent children and now they are older , I was talked into going back in the middle of covid.
I discovered VTX in my quest for some quality, not overpriced, returning refreshing CPD and have enjoyed the Small Animal Practice and Lower Urinary tract disease courses, a number of webinars and the rounds and clubs VTX regularly runs.
Sometimes I have to watch things 3-4 times to make sure something is being forced into my one remaining brain cell, but that’s the beauty of recordings.
Just don’t expect any intelligent questions from me.

Also probiotics? Is there a dose rate?

You talked about an Alivecor device for animals with cardiac disturbances. Is this a vet one specifically?
Does it just go on the chest, over the heart?
I have used a human one but you use both thumbs.

Oh it’s always out and used on everything. But it seems to be seen as the nurses’ job so I’ve left them to it so far. Am going to take more notice in future.

Our practice has just bought a multiscreen thingy but the vets haven’t been allowed near it. So this lesson will make me sound like I kind of know what I’m talking about. Thank you. I will take more of an interest in it now!

Can I urge everyone to go to this if possible?
I managed to go along to the last one and it was amazing. My radiography knowledge is sadly lacking but Mairi is lovely and encouraging and the more you participate, the more you will get out of it. You won’t regret it.

Can I just say how much I enjoyed this last night?
Mairi is so lovely and the way she presents her subject makes it exciting to learn with her. I am so pleased I made the effort to hide from the kids and log in to the live viewing last night.
I would encourage everyone to do the same at least once. I’ll be back for sure.

Do you have links to these papers? ( easier to send)
Also, what do people prefer – gaba or traz?
Our clinic seems to use gaba most, and then go to BOTH if no desired result- esp in dogs. Perhaps it might be best to try the other on its own first?

That’s great to hear Lesley. I do think there are probably a bunch of unused vets out there, who would really like to have a go at returning to practice, but are too scared to give it a go.
I don’t mind presenting myself as ‘if I can do it, anyone can’ but at this stage, I’m not sure if I actually can!
I think I’m going to be stuck doing vaccinations and post op checks forever!

I will start and hope others will join in.
I’m a Kiwi working in a SA practice in NW London. I had been out of practice almost 18 years until earlier this year, when I saw a vacancy for a PT vet at a practice 5 minutes from our house. I had a chat with the CD, did a LOT of work shadowing and ended up agreeing to work 20 hours a week.
I had been doing some home visiting and end-of-life care, so wasn’t completely out of the loop, but the last few months have been tough. I’m now 50+ with 4 teenagers to run around after and last time I worked for someone else I only had one small child. I’m definitely not as quick as I used to be and the computer does my head in! New tests and new drugs are exciting but challenging.
I’m hoping this course will help my days at work become a less terrifying prospect and help me be less of a burden on my colleagues who have been very tolerant of my endless questions.
