    Hi

I’m Emma, I’m a peripatetic medic/ultrasonographer in the North East England/Edinburgh area. I’m not in a specific management/leadership role, but I think leadership skills are super important in every day vet life as we all work together as a team and hopefully I can learn lots over the next few weeks. I’d particularly be interested improve my communication in challenging situations.

    Thanks

    Emma

    Hi Amber,

There are course notes for each lesson separately. When you click on the link for a lesson, it brings up the video and above that to the left of the screen (when looking at it) there are the words ‘lesson notes’. If you click on this the notes should down load for the week. Let me know if that doesn’t work.

Thanks Liz, that’s really interesting. I think I would be scared to add Preds in to a feline myocarditis incase I tipped it over into CHF!

I will see what the Sphynx looks like in a couple of weeks time and let you know, it sounds like he has lots of character, so might need Torb and Alfax!

    Thanks again

Thanks Scott. For interest I have been suggested to source it from this company https://uat.freseniuskabinutrition.com/products/kabiven-perikabiven/

    Hi Scott,

I hope your week is going OK, I’m just revisiting this post as a colleague has just diagnosed another hepatocutaneous syndrome and they were looking at treatment options, particularly the amino acid infusions. Do you know if this can be sourced in the UK and if so where from? It’s not something I’ve had to use before.

    Thanks again

I’m not sure about z/d in puppies, but Purina HA can be used in puppies from four months old if that is any use. Info at the website here: https://www.purina.co.uk/dog/dog-food/product-proplan-veterinary-diets-hypoallergenic-dry

    Hi,

I’m Emma, a bit of a VXT regular! I am a vet in the North East of England and spend most of my time doing ultrasounds. A couple of the practices I scan at have very feline heavy caseloads, so I’m really looking forward to this course 🙂

Thanks Filipe, that’s great. I’m supposed to be meeting and scanning this dog this week, (on Thursday actually before the Q and A), so I will let you know the success of the combination 🙂

    Hi Filipe,

If the cat has hyperkalaemia due to the post renal obstruction, you will get changes on your ECG, T waves can be tall and then other changes can occur (flattening P wave and potentially a wider QRS) and bradycardia can be present.

If we have these ECG findings, it would suggest hyperkalaemia is present, before you get your blood results and you could start Calcium gluconate infusion, while monitoring the ECG to ensure the changes are improving, rather than deteriorating.

    Morning Filipe,

Things I would want to have handy would be
    -IV catheters
    -Needles and syringes
    -ET tubes and a laryngoscope
    -Fluid bag, drip etc
-Some emergency drugs (epinephrine, atropine, dex) and a table with standard doses on (because I can never remember them when I need them in an emergency.
-A face mask would be nice to have handy if possible too

    Hi Everyone,

I’m a vet based in the North East of England. I mainly scan in my current role, so I use sedation more than anaesthesia and so hopefully this course will be a good refresher for my anaesthesia knowledge, as well as helping me adapt any sedations for patients with co-morbidities.
