Lou Northway
Lou qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2009 and has since gained extensive experience in both primary care practices and a referral hospital. Throughout her career, she has earned additional certifications in emergency and critical care nursing, as well as anaesthesia and analgesia.
Lou’s passion for anaesthesia, pain management, and quality improvement has grown over the years, and these areas have become her primary focus.
She currently works in a busy primary care practice in Buckinghamshire, where she now serves as the Clinical Lead RVN. In this role, she oversees clinical governance, quality improvement, team training, and ensures high clinical nursing standards. In recognition of her work, Lou was named an RCVS Knowledge Champion for her contributions to clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives in both 2019 and 2020. Additionally, in 2019, she received the prestigious RCVS Inspiration Award for her ability to inspire and motivate others.
In 2021, Lou embraced the opportunity to join RCVS Knowledge as the Quality Improvement Lead RVN. In this capacity, she helps to promote and deliver quality improvement training to the veterinary profession while continuing her clinical practice role.
A strong advocate for teamwork and exceptional patient care, Lou is dedicated to helping veterinary nurses identify and cultivate their niche within the profession. She is also passionate about engaging with the vet nursing community, hosting peer-to-peer events, and sharing her insights and experiences to inspire others.
